There is a distinct terroir and climate for each - the Mendoza and Cafayate region. Both have the best grape growing regions in all of Argentina, and Piattelli wanted to showcase them.
CAFAYATE
You can primarily find Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat, Cabernet Franc and Torrontés in the Cafayate region. Their winery is headed by Alejandro Nesman and is a site to behold. It is an architectural masterpiece that produces some of the best wines in the region. The Cafayate winery opened in 2012 and has quickly become one of the top wineries and tourist destinations in Salta. The valley is ideal for grapevine cultivation and their winery is one of the only gravity-flow watered ones in Argentina.
MENDOZA
Opened in 2002, The Mendoza Winery is headed by Valeria Antolin, who is the heart of Piattelli operations. It is located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains as the vineyards rely on its snow-crested peaks to provide irrigation, a significant aspect of what makes their wines exquisite. The winery has 40,000 case capacity and is the production hub for the majority of Piattelli's varietals. These vineyards are located in Agrelo - Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza and Valle de Uco. There is no need for pesticides as the area is pest-free due to naturally low-humidity and high altitudes - making Mendoza USDA certified organic.
